Ingredients


  • 250 g (2 cups) all-purpose flour

  • 1 teaspoon salt

  • 1 teaspoon baking powder

  • 120 ml (1/2 cup) plain yogurt

  • 60 ml (1/4 cup) warm water

  • 2 tablespoons olive oil or melted butter

  • Optional: garlic, herbs, or seeds for flavor



Recipe


  1. Prepare the Dough:

    • In a large bowl, mix the flour, salt, and baking powder.

    • Add the yogurt and olive oil (or melted butter) and mix until crumbly.

    • Gradually add the warm water while kneading until a soft, smooth dough forms.


  2. Rest the Dough:

    • Cover the dough with a clean kitchen towel and let it rest for 30-60 minutes to relax and develop flavor.


  3. Shape the Naan:

    • Divide the dough into 6 equal portions and roll each into a ball.

    • On a lightly floured surface, use a rolling pin to flatten each ball into a thin oval or round shape.


  4. Cook the Naan:

    • Heat a non-stick pan or skillet over medium-high heat. No oil is needed for cooking.

    • Place one naan in the pan and cook until bubbles form and the bottom is golden, about 1-2 minutes.

    • Flip and cook for another 1-2 minutes, pressing lightly with a spatula to ensure even cooking.


  5. Optional Toppings:

    • For garlic naan, brush the cooked naan with melted butter and sprinkle with minced garlic or fresh herbs like cilantro.


    Serve immediately with your favorite curry, dips, or as a snack on its own.
